A Day in the Life with Our Colourful Yorkies

Today I wanted to share something very simple and very real – what an ordinary day with our Yorkshire Terriers looks like in our home. There are no big announcements here, just small moments with tiny dogs who take a huge space in my heart.

Our mornings usually start with little paws tapping on the floor and sleepy eyes looking at me, asking if it is finally time to get up. Some of the dogs are full of energy straight away, ready to play and run, while others prefer slow cuddles, stretching and a gentle good-morning scratch behind the ears. Breakfast is a serious event for everyone – bowls are checked twice and nobody lets me forget whose turn it is to be served first.

After breakfast, the house becomes busy in a different way. I go to work, do chores or run errands, and the dogs settle into their own routines. Some watch the world from the window like tiny security guards, others choose the warmest blanket or the softest cushion and go back to sleep. There is always at least one little shadow following me from room to room, just to make sure I do not disappear.

Walks and outdoor time are our favourite part of the day. Even though Yorkshire Terriers are small, they have a lot of energy and curiosity. They love sniffing every leaf, listening to new sounds and meeting people who stop to say how cute they are. It is funny how such small dogs can walk with so much confidence, like they own the pavement. Fresh air and a bit of adventure always put them in a good mood.

At home, playtime can mean many different things. Sometimes it is chasing toys, sometimes zoomies around the living room, and sometimes gentle games on the sofa. I enjoy watching how different their personalities are – some are clowns, some are little bosses, and some are calm observers who prefer to watch the chaos from a safe distance. They all have their own way of asking for attention and love.

Grooming is another regular part of our life with Yorkies. Brushing, tying up topknots, checking eyes, ears and paws – these are our quiet moments together. It is not always perfect and not every dog loves bath day, but I try to make it as calm and positive as possible. Keeping their coats clean and tangle-free is not just about beauty, it is also about comfort and health for these small, sensitive dogs.

Evenings are when the house feels the most peaceful. After everyone has eaten, gone outside and had their last play, we all slow down. The dogs choose their spots – some next to me, some on top of me – and we relax together. I might listen to an audiobook, scroll through my phone or work on a little project, but there is always at least one Yorkie close enough to touch. Their warm bodies and quiet breathing make even ordinary evenings feel special.

Living with Yorkshire Terriers means there is always something happening – a funny expression, a new game, a stolen sock, a cuddle at exactly the right moment. It is not always easy, and there are days when I am tired or worried, but looking at their faces reminds me why I love this life so much. They bring colour, noise, joy and love into the house every single day.

Thank you for still being here and reading about our little dogs, even after a quieter period on this blog. I hope to share more small stories, useful tips and everyday moments with you again. If you also share your home with a Yorkie or another small dog, you are very welcome here.
